The Thomas Adams School

Choosing the right secondary school is a big decision. At Thomas Adams School in Wem, North Shropshire, we make that transition into Year 7 a smooth and positive one. Founded in 1650, we’re a successful co-educational state school with a strong track record of academic achievement, pastoral care, and personal development.

We understand that starting secondary school is about more than just lessons – it’s about feeling safe, welcomed and inspired. Our dedicated Year 7 team ensures that every child settles quickly, makes friends, and feels part of our warm and inclusive community from day one. Our spacious 30-acre campus includes two main sites: Lowe Hill, where Years 7–11 enjoy excellent facilities, and Noble Street, home to our Sixth Form. We’re proud of our outstanding Music, Sport and Drama departments – with specialist centres and facilities that help young talents shine.

Pastoral care is at the heart of everything we do. Our ethos is simple: happy students thrive. That’s why we monitor wellbeing and progress closely, working in partnership with families to provide the right support throughout a child’s journey.

We also offer a unique opportunity through Adams House, our state boarding facility for students aged 11–18. Increasingly popular with families across the UK and overseas, state boarding combines excellent pastoral care and academic support – with families only paying for boarding, not tuition. For many, it’s an affordable and flexible option that gives children stability and independence in a safe, caring environment.

We welcome children from a wide range of cultural and religious backgrounds and celebrate the diversity of our school community. Discover more at one of our open events. Visit www.thomasadams.net or call 01939 237000.
