Wednesfield High Academy is an 11 – 18 school with over 850 students including 90 in our Sixth Form.
We are unique in that we are one of only two academies that have a link to the University of Wolverhampton through the University of Wolverhampton Multi Academy Trust (UWMAT).
The link to the university is significant. The faculties of the university offer expertise to its schools, including high calibre teaching staff and all of our students are guaranteed a university place provided they meet the entry requirements. As an academy, we are proud to be a part of the UWMAT family of schools.
Our curriculum is driven by our vision of ‘Changing Lives, Shaping Futures’ and embodies our Academy values: ‘Respect, Resilience, Pride, Opportunity and Success’. We provide a high quality broad and balanced academic and vocational curriculum, alongside robust personal development programmes which are embedded into our curriculum through dedicated lessons.
Our students have access to a programme of enrichment activities which contribute to their emotional well-being, personal development and offer extended opportunities to meet all needs. We offer a variety of opportunities and experiences for our students to learn new skills, represent our academy, volunteer within our local community as well as visiting different countries as they move through our academy.
We have been in partnership with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme for over 10 years. We have had several cohorts of students successfully take part in the National Citizenship Service. We are part of the Children’s University and our students take part in the National Debate Mate competition as well as representing the academy in sports fixtures.
Our culture of keeping children safe is highly evident across our academy and our safeguarding team effectively ensure that our most vulnerable students receive the appropriate support that they need. We care about our children and, through our strong pastoral support, we help them to grow into caring young adults who wish to succeed.
Our careers programme is extremely strong and we gained the National Quality in Careers Standard for Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance in January 2019 at gold standard for our ‘Outstanding Careers’ provision. Over 60% of our students go on to university and we have remained below the national average for students not in education employment or training for several consecutive years.
As part of an 11 – 18 academy, our students have first choice to join our Sixth Form – UWMAT VI. Our Sixth Form is strong and, in 2019, our students achieved the highest A-level progress in the city of Wolverhampton.
Operating out of two campuses, we are able to provide students with an amazing array of subjects to study and an unrivalled enrichment programme that ensures that our students can progress seamlessly onto their chosen career pathway.
The motto of UWMAT VI ‘Learners Today, Leaders Tomorrow’ embodies all that we are about. We aim to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding to achieve great things so that they can grow and develop into our future leaders. Don’t just take our word for it! What do our parents and students say?
Come and see for yourself our amazing academy, our fabulous young people and commited staff.
