Headteacher Siobhan Bowen explained: “I am exceptionally proud of my students in every respect.
“They never fail to amaze me and continuously give of their best. Those who visit our school regularly remark on how warm and welcoming my students are, and how polite they are, and how well behaved they are.
“I am also extremely lucky not only to work among but also to head up a dedicated, loyal and committed body of staff whose sole aim is to give of their best, to provide the best possible care they can to the children they work with every day and to live out their God given vocation in the most evident way possible.
“Equally as important for us as a dynamic school community, is the need to challenge ourselves. Not content to sit still, we embrace change and particularly so when it serves the needs of our students, their families and our local and global community. Our children regularly contribute to a wide range of charitable initiatives addressing equally as wide a range of social concerns.
“We regularly welcome students from our Catholic feeder primary schools to St Thomas More for events such as our Year 5 Primary Retreat, our Year 4 Spirit and Sport Day and our annual Christmas Carol Services and Senior Citizens Christmas Party.
“Ever concerned with the holistic development of our students, we encourage and support a wide variety of artistic and creative endeavours. These include for example, music lessons, art club and our annual whole school production which is always a favourite among our parents and carers – this year’s production is an all-time favourite, The Wizard of Oz, drawing a cast from Year 7 to Year 10.
“As a Catholic school, the pastoral care we provide for our students is not only a necessary element of our unique ethos but is also the backbone of the successes we celebrate in other areas, e.g. academic pursuit. We firmly believe that if a child is to succeed academically it is essential that they are secure, happy and valued as a person.
“As a diverse school community, both in terms of our staff and student bodies, we are keenly aware of the need to ensure that our students are adequately equipped academically to pursue the career path of their dreams. In order to do so they must possess the best possible grades be that at GCSE and/or A-levels.
“Again we are proud to be a school that demonstrates ongoing improvements and a dedication to succeed.”
