I was so nervous about starting secondary school, a brand new school, new students, new teachers, but after my first day, all of this was gone.
I had a great time! I’ve shared some fantastic experiences with some amazing people and have made lots of friends.
Coming from primary school is a big step, and can be really scary.
But joining and starting Kingsmead was nice, everyone was friendly and made us all feel really welcome.
They do lots of activities to help us to meet new people and to make new friends.
They all made me feel relaxed and happy to come to school.
Whilst the work is challenging, students who work hard are rewarded in many different ways.
We can earn reward points and buy certain things, like gadgets and toys and stationary and we can also be nominated for Star of the Month and have certificates sent home so our parents know how well we are doing.
I like that the lessons are like this though, as they are always moving, they are never dull.
There is always a new activity for us to try or group work and presentations and the teachers always push us to do our best.
One of the most memorable experiences I had was when I went to Standon Bowers (an outdoor education centre).
Being at Standon Bowers improved my confidence and helped me to make friends with new people I hadn’t spoken to before.
“School here is more than just learning and lessons, it’s taking part. There are so many things you can get involved in here, you’re never short of things to do!”
Not only did it improve my social skills, it helped me to become more responsible.
It was somewhere I had never been before so amazing to get the chance to go.
They had loads of different experiences and activities and team leaders for different things.
I took part in a range of activities, which for was a lovely opportunity as I got to try new things.
The five days we spent there was an incredible reward and showed that all my hard work had paid off.
There were many surprises during my first year too; the year 7 Showcase, participating in a Christmas service at the local church, taking part in world book day and much more.
School here is more than just learning and lessons, it’s taking part.
There are so many things you can get involved in here, you’re never short of things to do!
All of these things make school fun and I really have enjoyed every day.
Even the lessons and teachers I have are amazing and actually make the lessons fun too.
I can’t wait to continue my journey here at Kingsmead!
