The celebration of individual talent is central to education at Shrewsbury – both in and beyond the classroom. In whatever sphere, a pupil will find a member of staff to support and encourage, enthuse and inspire them to exceed their expectations and meet the challenges that lie ahead with confidence and good judgement.
The figures for 2021 A-levels make for excellent reading (38.3% A*, 86.9% A*-B), and what has mattered more than ever has been the transition of these pupils to their chosen universities and we are delighted that in excess of 85% of pupils confirmed in their first-choice places. At GCSE level, 53% were awarded at 9 or 8 (an A* on the old system) and 76% at 9 to 7. Shrewsbury School wants all its pupils, whatever their ability, to enjoy their life beyond the classroom, and has a well earned reputation for academic, musical and sporting excellence.
It competes internationally in a variety of sports, with excellent facilities and coaching on offer, as well as boasting a state-of-the art dance and drama studio in the Barnes Theatre and one of the strongest music departments in the country.
We believe that school should be ‘serious fun’: because learning and enjoyment go hand in hand. Learning takes place not only in the classroom, but also through a full and interesting co-curricular programme and in the pastoral and communal life of the school. With personal pastoral care and support, we create an environment where pupils can flourish and grow to become caring and confident members of society.
