Hydesville Tower Senior School retains its high ranking position in performance tables year on year.
A spokesman for the school said: “Pupils achieve superb results due to small year groups and class sizes, high aspirations of staff, flexibility within a broad and balanced curriculum, excellent pastoral care and a meaningful and effective school-home partnership.
“The school adopts an individualised learning model whereby teachers provide a tailored programme for every pupil, designed to help them achieve their full potential.
“This is done by regularly assessing academic achievement so a comprehensive picture is built of each pupil’s ability and progress.
As a result, pupils understand where they are ontheir personal learning journey; a journey supported by a system of both pastoral and academic mentoring, challenge and support.
“Learning that is tailored to meet the needs of pupils has resulted in the senior school being ranked as the best performing non-selective senior school in Walsall by the Department for Education and third overall in the borough, behind two selective grammar schools.”
Although extremely proud of an excellent position in GCSE performance tables, there is another measure which is of greater importance to Hydesville; the amount of progress each child makes.
‘Value added’ is a measure of the progress pupils make between different stages of their education; if pupils perform beyond expectations this is reflected in a
high ‘value added’ score.
Hydesville Tower Senior School is ranked within the top three per cent nationally when it comes to adding value to a child’s level of attainment.
